Rwanda marks the 29th Liberation Anniversary
Tuesday, 4 July, 2023 - Rwandans and friends of Rwanda celebrated the 29th anniversary of Liberation, known as Kwibohora29, which signifies the country's rebirth following the Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA) putting an end to the Genocide against the Tutsi. The liberation of the nation ensured security, restored dignity, and rekindled hope for the Rwandan people.
In his message to Rwandans and friends of Rwanda, President Kagame paid homage to "those who sacrificed their lives for every citizen of Rwanda to live a dignified life." President Kagame further reminded the younger generation that "it is now your time to carry on from where the nation has been brought and play your part in ensuring that the gains made by the previous generation are not wasted." The Head of State further emphasized that " the journey to transforming Rwanda requires us to stay the course, stand up for who and what we are, and sustain the resilience we need to build the nation all Rwandans deserve."
At the national level, Kwibohora29 celebrations were held in Rugerero sector, Rubavu district, where Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente inaugurated the Rugerero IDP Model Village on behalf of President Paul Kagame. The Model Village, valued at Frw 18.4 billion, was built by the Rwanda Defence Force in collaboration with other government institutions and handed over to 120 families, many of whom are survivors of the May 2-3 disasters that claimed lives and damaged infrastructure in Rubavu District and other districts in the Western and Northern provinces. The Model Village comprises residential houses, an Early Child Development (ECD) school, a mini-market, Agakiriro, a health post, and a poultry shed. Additionally, the village has paved roads, electricity, and clean water.
