The Government of Rwanda deplores the inflammatory and un-African statements made by Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye during an event in Kinshasa on 21 January 2024. 

President Ndayishimiye, acting in his capacity as the African Union Champion for Youth, Peace and Security, in an event advertised under the banner of the continental organisation, made several baseless and incendiary allegations aimed at inciting division among Rwandans, and further jeopardizing peace and security in the Great Lakes Region. 

Rwandans have worked diligently to strengthen unity and foster the country's development. Young Rwandans have embraced this opportunity, are taking ownership and actively contributing to building a brighter future for themselves.

For anyone to try and undermine this progress by calling on young Rwandans to overthrow their government is troubling. But for a leader of a neighbouring country to do so, from an African Union platform, is deeply irresponsible and a flagrant violation of the African Union Charter. 

Rwanda has no interest in creating conflict with our neighbours. We will continue to work with partners in the region and beyond to foster stability and continued development.

LE RWANDA DÉPLORE LES DECLARATIONS INCENDIAIRES DU PRÉSIDENT BURUNDAIS NDAYISHIMIYE

Le gouvernement rwandais déplore les déclarations incendiaires et contraires aux valeurs africaines prononcées par le Président burundais Evariste Ndayishimiye lors d'un rassemblement à Kinshasa le 21 janvier 2024.

Agissant en sa capacité de Champion de l’Union Africaine pour la Jeunesse, la Paix et la Sécurité, le Président Ndayishimiye a émis des déclarations infondées et incendiaires lors d'un événement organisé sous la bannière de l’organisation continentale. Ces déclarations visaient à susciter la division au sein de la population rwandaise et à compromettre la paix et la sécurité dans la région des Grands Lacs.

Les Rwandais ont travaillé sans relâche pour renforcer leur unité et promouvoir le développement de leur pays. Les jeunes rwandais ont saisi cette opportunité pour s'approprier et contribuer activement à la construction d'un avenir meilleur.

Il est inquiétant que quiconque cherche à saboter ces progrès en incitant les jeunes rwandais à renverser leur gouvernement. Qu'un dirigeant d'un pays voisin lance un tel appel, et qui plus est depuis une tribune de l'Union africaine, est non seulement profondément irresponsable mais également une violation manifeste de la Charte de l'Union Africaine.

Le Rwanda n’a aucun intérêt à créer des conflits avec ses voisins. Nous poursuivrons notre collaboration avec les partenaires de la région et au-delà en vue de promouvoir la stabilité et de continuer sur la voie du développement.

Abanyarwanda baharaniye gushimangira ubumwe n’iterambere ry’Igihugu. Urubyiruko rw’Abanyarwanda rwakira aya mahirwe, ndetse rugira ibintu ibyarwo ku buryo rugira uruhare mu kubaka ejo hazaza heza harwo.
