Rwanda celebrates the annual Commonwealth Day
Kigali, Monday 14 March 2022 – Every year, Commonwealth member countries commemorate Commonwealth Day by observing the celebrations with flag raising ceremonies and cultural events.
This year’s celebrations, held under the theme ‘Delivering a Common Future’, will be historic, marking 70 years of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and her role as Head of the Commonwealth and will be celebrated with a service held at Westminster Abbey.
As Rwanda is set to host the 2022 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in June, it is important to note that, it joined the Commonwealth in 2009 becoming its 54th member country.
During celebrations at the Kigali Convention Centre, Prof. Nshuti Manasseh, Minister of State in charge of East African Community at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, said, “The concept of service, is not new to Rwanda and indeed many Rwandans have contributed to the development of our nations in different aspects and capacities… Whilst Rwanda is the youngest Member of the Commonwealth, the principle of serving your community is one we hold dear.”
Commonwealth Day is an annual celebration observed by people all over the Commonwealth Member Countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Americas, the Pacific and Europe.
