President Samia Suluhu Visits Rwanda
Kigali, Tuesday 03 August 2021 – President Samia Suluhu Hassan of the United Republic of Tanzania paid a two-day state visit to Rwanda from Monday 02 August 2021 to further strengthen bilateral relations.
On the first day of her first visit to Rwanda, President Suluhu had a tête-à-tête meeting with President Kagame followed by bilateral talks with members of both delegations. President Suluhu later visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where she laid a wreath to pay tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
The two Heads of State witnessed the signing of four bilateral agreements on cooperation in the areas of information and communication technology, immigration matters, education matters, and regulation of medical products.
While addressing the press President Kagame said, “Rwanda and Tanzania share more than just a border. Our Strong historical ties and common aspiration to deliver prosperity to our people have always been central to our cooperation.”
In addition, President Kagame said the challenges that the East African Community region faces can only be addressed through unwavering solidarity and seizing the opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships.
President Suluhu stated that Rwanda and Tanzania have an opportunity to build on the historic ties to expand the current areas of cooperation.
On the second day of the visit, President Kagame and President Samia Suluhu Hassan visited Inyange Industries, a food and beverage manufacturing facility located in Masaka Sector, Kicukiro District.
Both Heads of State also visited the Kigali Special Economic Zone, where they toured the Mara Phones Rwanda factory which manufactures three different smartphone models and Volkswagen Rwanda, a facility that assembles six different car models of Volkswagen.
