Kigali, Wednesday 13 April 2022 – President Kagame travelled on Monday to Brazzaville, in the Republic of Congo for a three-day state visit where he was received by his Congolese counterpart President Denis Sassou Nguesso.

President Kagame addressed a joint session of the Congolese Parliament where he reflected on actions of both countries in achieving continental prosperity deepening the friendship between Rwanda and Congo.

“We know the problems that Africa faces. And we also know the solutions. What is missing is for us to move together, from words to action, with a sense of urgency. We cannot take pride in saying the right things, for decades, and then find ourselves many years from now, having said the right things, but not actually having achieved much. We need to move to deliver what we have promised ourselves, but above all promised our citizens,” President Kagame said.

Later in the day, President Denis Sassou Nguesso hosted a State Banquet in honour of President Kagame.

On the second day of the State Visit, the two Heads of State held a tête-à-tête which saw representatives from both delegations sign agreements in areas of economic cooperation, trade and cultural exchange during the bilateral meeting.

Following the bilateral talks, the signed agreements revolved around;

  • Economic partnership for the promotion and protection of investments
  • Mining
  • Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and handcrafts
  • Culture and arts, as well as youth, sport, and civic education

In the afternoon, as he concluded his state visit, President Kagame accompanied by his host President Sassou Nguesso also visited Oyo the hometown to President Nguesso where they visited the Museum of Kiebe-Kiebe, a milk factory, a farm and a modern butchery.
