President Kagame officiates the swearing-in of six new senators

Kigali, Thursday 22 October 2020 – President Kagame has on Thursday officiated the swearing-in of six new senators at the parliament building, Kimihurura.

The new members of the Senate of Rwanda include four that were appointed by the President, and two others who were elected through the Consultative Forum for Political Parties in Rwanda.

In his remarks, President Kagame has said that the new senators will bring new energy to the parliament, and will help in the country’s development. He also highlighted current challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, emphasizing the need for more efforts to overcome these challenges.

Rwanda’s Senate is composed of 26 members; 20 of them elected and 6 appointed by different players. They serve a five-year term, renewable once.
