President Kagame officiates the swearing-in of new government officials

  Governance

Kigali, 01 June 2020 - President Kagame on Monday officiated at Urugwiro Village the swearing-in of new government officials who were recently appointed in different positions.

President Kagame thanked those who took their oath of office for "accepting to continue serving our country, especially in these difficult times", reminding them not to confuse personal interests with the country's.

"All of us leaders should always uphold that when it comes to fulfilling our duties in public service, we should not confuse our own interest with that of the country. When you take the oath to fulfill this duty, it means that you accept this heavy responsibility to work for your country and our people and to transform what we have into even more resources" President Kagame said.

On continued measures against COVID19, President Kagame reiterated that the government would leave no solution unexplored in fighting the virus while also finding ways to return to normal life.

“It is also important for citizens to understand the measures that are being taken to fight this virus. What it requires of us is not just to wait for one day or time we can predict, none of us can say we know the date this will end. The only progress we can control is the one resulting from the measures we have put in place. Things are not only dependent on a set date, but it is also dependent on what happens in that time. I ask you to be patient, every institution is working to confront this virus while also finding ways to return to a normal life. We will do everything we can and leave no solution unexplored. I believe that nothing can stand in our way.”  President Kagame added.

The leaders who took oath on Monday include Prof Nshuti Manasseh, Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in charge of East African Community and Dr Jean Chrysostome Ngabitsinze, Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources.

Others include Richard Muhumuza, the new judge of the Supreme Court, Agnes Nyirandabaruta Murorunkwere, the Vice President of the Court of Appeal, two judges, Emmanuel Kamere and Geraldine Umugwaneza of the Court of Appeal, Deogratias Minani Bizimana, Member of Parliament and Abbas Mukama, the Deputy Ombudsman.
