President Kagame co-chairs the Broadband Commission Spring Meeting

  Education

Kigali, Monday 22 March 2021 – President Kagame has on Monday chaired the broadband commission spring meeting alongside his co-chair Carlos Slim, who is also the Chairman of the board of the Carlos Slim Foundation; and the co-vice chairs Audrey Azoulay, the Director General of UNESCO, and Houlin Zhao, the Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union.

In his address of the day, President Kagame noted that the broadband usage has exploded during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, as life has incrisingly migrated online, the contrast between the digital haves and have nots is even more blatant.

President Kagame underlined that this is particularly true for education, with physical classrooms closed, many students has been unable to join virtual classrooms, resulting into missing an entire year of schooling. President Kagame further called for doubling efforts in keeping safe children who spend more time online.

President Kagame also welcomed the new commissioners of the UN Broadband commission who joined the meeting for the first time.
